Today's reading: 1 Samuel 23:1-14
Even when his life is in turmoil, David is concerned about the welfare of others. So when he receives word that the city of Keilah is being attacked and raided by the Philistines, his immediate response is to help. And, he absolutely knows that taking this action will likely put him and his men at risk, but with a thumbs-up response from God, he willing and quickly moves into action.
This passage provided a good reminder that one of the best things we can do when we're stressed and struggling is to shift our focus off of ourselves and onto the needs of others. Responding in this manner is biblical (Philippians 2:4) and it has a calming effect on us as well.
What's your experience been when you've reached out to help someone else? How has taking that action impacted you? Is there someone in your neighborhood, at church, at work or at school who could use your help? Let's ask God to direct us to people in need this week. Tami
