Holding Back

today's reading.
1 Corinthians 8  Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up...

Sometimes we need to hold back--even when we have the right to do something. That's the message Paul lays out as he addresses the fact that some of the believers in Corinth are eating food offered to idols. He explains that there is only one God (whom they serve) and that God isn't concerned about their eating of this food since an idol doesn't have any real existence (verses 4-6). Even so, Paul cautions the Corinthians about taking this action if doing so would damage or harm a fellow believer's spiritual walk. "Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble" (vs. 13).

So what does this passage show us about being considerate of other Christ followers? What does it reveal about using discernment when it comes to exercising our freedom in Christ? Tami
