For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

There are certainly some unusual and unique names that exist today. Too often, the names we remember at Christmas are those like Frosty, Rudolph, and Santa. But there is a name that is above every other name — Jesus. There are 256 names, titles, and descriptions of our Savior that cover the expanse of the Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.

The word “wonder” in the Old Testament in the particular verse above means “beyond comprehension” or “miracle.” It is the glory of His person and the magnificence of who He is. Jesus is the only one — our Wonderful Counselor — who can put the pieces of our lives together.

It’s obvious that so many people have several missing pieces in their lives, right? There are so many that have emotional disturbances in life. Henry David Thoreau, a philosopher, said, “Most men live quiet lives of desperation!” For instance, the most popular television program, Desperate Housewives, tells the stories of suburban women who are unhappy, unfulfilled, and incomplete in life. It’s so popular because so many people can relate to their lives of dissatisfaction!

Jesus is the only One who can give peace, hope, and help in life. He is Wonderful Counselor because of His supernatural birth, His sinless life, His substitutionary death, His spectacular resurrection, and His pending return. Christ is coming again and He is our Wonderful Counselor who right now makes intercession for the saints. He is on your side.

IN THE WONDERFUL COUNSELOR WE WILL FIND LIFE, LOVE, AND REST FOR OUR SOULS.
