This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

--1 John 1:5-6

As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, you and I have moved from darkness to light. Jesus has brought us into the light and out of the darkness!

That’s how you know that you are saved, because you’ve moved from darkness and the consequences of that darkness into the love and into the light of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is that light! Jesus is that love! And He came to this earth, perfectly God and perfectly man, in order to redeem us. That is, He has taken away our sin. By His blood we have been forgiven, and we’ve moved from the darkness to the beautiful light of Christ.

If you want to put the Christian faith in one sentence you could put it this way: God became one with us in order that we might become one with Him.

And how did He do that? He was born of a virgin, and He lived a perfect life. Though He faced sin’s temptation, He never sinned. He identified with us, and the Word of God was invested in us.

Jesus ultimately died for us, substituting for us on the cross. Second Corinthians 5:21 says, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Jesus is the God-Man!

May you celebrate and give thanks today for the light you have as a follower of Jesus Christ!

GOD BECAME ONE WITH US IN ORDER THAT WE MIGHT BECOME ONE WITH HIM.
