Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

--Proverbs 3:5-6

In his book, Holy Sweat, Tim Hansel recalls the time he and his son were in the country climbing on cliffs. He heard a voice from above yell, “Hey Dad! Catch me!” He turned to see that his son had happily jumped off a cliff before he even yelled the words. Hansel danced around trying to catch him and when he did, they both fell to the ground. Exasperated, Hansel gasped, “Can you give me one good reason why you did that???”

His son remarked with incredible calmness: “Sure…because you’re my Dad.” Hansel went on to explain that his son had been totally sure his dad would catch him. His son had no worries of being caught and was sure simply because he knew his father was trustworthy.

This is even truer for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Trust is the only way to live. You trusted when you accepted Christ as your personal Savior. Salvation is trusting Jesus—that’s all! And if you’re a child of God, then you’ve trusted Him to see you through the tough times.

Trust is not just an act…it’s an attitude. It is an activity by which you and I are to live every day of our lives. Trust doesn’t stop when you accept Christ. It is a process that continues on as you learn and grow in Him. You are not left to fend for yourself. Whatever you face in life, good or bad, you can trust God.

You may be facing loss today—of health, family, friends, home, confidence, financial resources—but whatever it is, you can know that by trusting in God you will be delivered from every dilemma in your life. Ultimately, God is working in you for His best, and you can never go astray from His loving presence in your life. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

WHEN YOU TRUST IN GOD…

THERE IS INFALLIBLE WISDOM TO DIRECT YOU,

THERE IS PERFECT LOVE TO KEEP YOU,

AND THERE IS ETERNAL POWER TO PROTECT YOU.
