The Battlefield of War

When it was told David, he gathered all Israel, crossed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in battle array against David and fought with him. Then the Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand horsemen of the Syrians, and struck Shobach the commander of their army, who died there. - 2 Samuel 10:17-18

David, as a warrior, was prepared to engage in warfare with his enemies once again. Can you imagine all the hand to hand combat? Right there on the front lines they fought with swords, shields and spears and only the toughest survived. It is amazing to think of more than forty thousand dead on the battle field. David had another incredible victory.

Many people understandably do not want to engage in war because many soldiers lose their lives. War takes a horrible toll on people’s lives emotionally, physically and spiritually; in fact most men are never the same.  It is only the grace of God and the Word of God that will keep them sane (2 Timothy 1:7). There are many wars but afterwards, in victory there is often a gained lasting peace.

The world is always at war, but one day wars will cease. The bible tells us in Psalm 46:9: He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; and in Isaiah 9:6 Jesus is called the, Prince of Peace. Through the cross He fought and victoriously won our salvation and our peace with God. Then imagine, one day, in the millennium period, He will also bring about 1000 years of peace on earth.

And they [martyrs] lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. - Revelation 20:4
