Heads or Tails?

“Here we are, servants today! And the land that You gave to our fathers, to eat its fruit and its bounty, Here we are, servants in it! And it yields much increase to the kings You have set over us, because of our sins; also they have dominion over our bodies and our cattle at their pleasure; and we are in great distress. And because of all this, we make a sure covenant and write it; our leaders, our Levites, and our priests seal it.” - >Nehemiah 9:36-38

God’s people became servants in their own land! Think about that for a moment, they were no longer free! King Artaxerxes and the other Persian kings took the increase of the land all away––everything the Lord had given them. This happened because of their sins. Now they were in great distress! God had warned them that they would not be a head nation, but they would become the tail:

“The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail” - (Deuteronomy 28:43-44).

The people made a covenant with God because of all the turmoil they were enduring. They hoped revival would come. If only they would have listened and observed the commandments, they would have prospered:

“…the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them” - (Deuteronomy 28:13).

Does that sound like America today? We should be a God-fearing nation, one that serves the Lord and prospers. Seriously, our land is becoming a foreign land––a place full of heathen gods.  We need to pray for America, the Land of the Free (2 Chronicles 7:14). Those who come to America should hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ; we need to be a light to them.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
~Matthew 5:14~
