There's An App For That: How Do I Grow As A Christian? | 2 Peter 1:4

2 Peter 1:4
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

How Can I Grow as a Christian? Believe God’s Promises!

In today’s passage, Peter explains that God “has given us his very great and precious promises.” These promises are for all believers. He does not show favoritism. He is the One who gives the promises and only he can deliver. Take some time to write the following promises on a 3x5 card. I carry these cards with me and read them often (Deuteronomy 31:7-8; Exodus 14:14; Isaiah 41:13, 54:4, 59:1; Psalm 62:1-2, 63:8. There are many more!).

It is through God’s promises that we “participate in the divine nature.” That means we share in Christ’s moral victory over sin (He died for our sin, paid its penalty, rose from the dead, and now imputes his righteousness to us) and we share in Christ’s victory over death. As he was raised from the death, so one day shall we (1 Corinthians 15:50, 53-57).

If you want to grow as a Christian, you must know and believe God’s promises. He brings us to himself, saves us through Jesus, gives us the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us, and will one day take us through the passage of death right into eternal life. He gives us everything we need in this life and throughout eternity.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your great promises. We believe. Please bolster our unbelief. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
