There's An App For That: How Do I Get to Know God? | Mark 1:35
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Except for his temptation in the desert and the cross, Jesus was normally surrounded by a crowd of people. His days were filled with teaching, healing, and divine appointments. But there was one appointment he never missed.
Jesus made time to be alone with the Father. Before the day began, he carved out the time to find a place where he would not be interrupted or distracted. In today’s passage he sacrificed sleep to pray. Spending time with the Father was too important to be missed.
What about you? In the midst of busy days and packed calendars, do you find time to pray? What sacrifices do you make to spend time with the Father? This passage does not teach that praying early in the morning when it is dark is the only time to meet with God. It does teach that sacrifices will have to be made to make time for prayer. And…we must be willing to make those sacrifices.
Father, forgive us for not spending undistracted time with you. Help us to arrange our schedule and our life to meet with you in a daily meaningful time. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
