There's An App For That: How Do I Get to Know God? | 2 Timothy 3:16-17
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The word translated “God-breathed” comes from the Greek word “neustos” which means “spirit.” In our passage today, Paul explains that all Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, came from the Spirit of God. The Bible has 40 different human authors writing over a period of 1500 years in three languages and on three continents. And yet, God breathed his Word by his Spirit through these writers to clearly reveal his message of salvation.
Because Scripture comes from the Spirit of God, it is useful in teaching us who God is and who we are, rebuking us when we choose the wrong path, correcting our misguided heart, and training us to live a life pleasing to God. The Father purposes that we are “thoroughly equipped” for all that he calls us.
Only one thing left to do. Read it! God desires to speak to us through his Word. Take the time to listen with an opened Bible and an opened heart.
Father, thank you for your Word that has been preserved for us throughout the ages. Thank you for the privilege of having access to Bibles in different translations. Please help us to take advantage of these great blessings and read your Word each day. Help us to put away our worn out excuses and make time to read Scripture daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
