Reflecting the Glory | Matthew 6:28-30 | Devotional

Matthew 6:28-30
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Jesus spoke these words as he sat on the side of a mountain. One can only imagine the lilies blowing in the breeze around him. Jesus, the Master Teacher, used the beautiful flowers to drive home his powerful point—God cares enough for the grass of the field to provide it with color and beauty. Don’t worry, he will provide for you.

The promise of God is to provide us with exactly what we need. King David said, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread” (Psalm 37:25). The Father takes care of his children. That’s where faith comes in.

  • God works on his schedule, not ours. Can you wait for him?
  • God will give us what we need, not always want. Can you trust him to know what you need?
  • Faith is not watching ESPN all day while God goes job searching. Can you work in partnership with him?
  • God wants his best for you even more than you want his best for you. Do you believe that?
  • Can you TRUST God? Can YOU trust God?

Father, thank you for the reminder of the love and care you have for your children. Help us to worry less and trust more. Help us to use worry as the trigger to trust. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
