The Journey with Ron Moore

Plant Seeds | Deuteronomy 3:22

Deuteronomy 3:22 Do not be afraid of them; the LORD your God himself will fight for you.

Nelson Henderson said, “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” That’s what Moses was doing in today’s passage. An act of disobedience had disqualified him from leading Israel into the land of promise. So, he is encouraging the next generation with the truths that he has personally experienced. That’s the job of every godly leader.

Godly leaders leave more than a business or an inheritance to the next generation. They pass on certain confidence and tenacious trust in God. They know, that since God does not change, the way He worked in their life will continue to be the way He works in the next generation.

When a godly leader has truly lived a life of faith, he can say to those who come after him, “Do not be afraid…the Lord your God himself will fight for you.”

Father, remind us that we must plant seeds today that grow trees under whose shade we do not expect to sit. Give us a vision that outlives us. Give us the wisdom to pass confidence in you to those who come after us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
