The Journey with Ron Moore

Living Hope | 1 Peter 1:10-11 | Devotional

1 Peter 1:10-11 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

The Living Hope within every true believer is confirmed day by day as we read the Bible. Whether we are in the Old Testament looking forward to the coming of our Savior, or in the New Testament looking back at what work he’s done, our confidence is built on the imperishable Word that “stands forever” (1 Peter 1:25).

The prophets of old spoke of a future grace and took pains to understand and reveal how and when that grace would come about. The Spirit inspired them to write time and again that the coming Grace-Giver would suffer before “the glories that would follow.”

Take some time today to read Isaiah 52:13-53:12. Here the prophet Isaiah, directed by the “Spirit of Christ” writes about the sufferings and the glories 700 years before the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Remember the recipients of this letter were facing persecution and needed confidence to stand firm. We need that same confidence to stand firm in obedience today.

Father, thank you for your Spirit inspired word that speaks to the issues of our lives and gives us the confidence to stand firm in obedience. May we be readers and doers of it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
