The Journey with Ron Moore

I AM ... The Good Shepherd | John 10:10

John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Jesus did come to earth to be a teacher, presenting a new system of morality. He did not come to be an example of self-denial and religious discipline. Jesus did not come to be the founder of a new religion. In contrast to the religious “shepherds” of his day (and ours) who espoused religion for the purpose of self-promotion, the Good Shepherd came to provide an abundant life that exists forever.

Jesus, who was rich, became poor, so that we who were spiritually bankrupt could experience the generous riches of his grace. He came to secure life for us, knowing that it would cost him his. Jesus, who was Holy, died for our sins, so that we, who are sinners, could be made holy by his death.

J. C. Ryle explains the full life that we have in Christ. “[Jesus] came to be a mighty fountain of life for all mankind, to which sinners coming by faith might drink; and, drinking, might live evermore.” That’s life “to the full!!”

Lord Jesus, thank you for your great sacrifice that provides eternal life in the future and abundant life today. Thank you for being the Good Shepherd. In your name we pray. Amen.
