The Journey with Ron Moore

I AM ... The Resurrection | John 11:4

John 11:4
When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it."

A good friend of Jesus was desperately ill. The man’s sisters sent the news to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” They expected Jesus to come immediately to heal their brother. Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. But when he got the message he stayed where he was two more days.

Jesus does not always meet our expectations. Sometimes, in the midst of our desperation, it seems that he stays “where he [is] two more days.” Jesus does not always come in our timeframe. He is never late, but he is seldom early. Jesus does not always satisfy our wants. After Lazarus died, his sisters made it clear that they were disappointed that Jesus had not arrived earlier and healed their brother.

But Jesus always uses every situation to bring glory to God. The believer’s situation, however desperate, will never end in death. George Mueller well says, “When trials come, we should say, ‘My heavenly Father puts this cup of trial into my hands, that I may have something sweet afterward.’” Our journey will have its rough stretches, but when you travel with Jesus, the destination will always be sweet.

Father, help us to trust you today, even if it feels like you are staying away for “two more days.” When we feel alone in the midst of trial and temptation, may we take you at your word. In Jesus name. Amen.
