The Greatest Text Message | Romans 15:4 | Devotional
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
My dad passed away when I was 19 years old. The next fall, I commuted to Oklahoma State (just for one semester!) and spent a lot of time with an old plastic blue Navigators Scripture Memory Packet during my road time to Stillwater. One passage in the packet was John 5:24:
I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
While I didn’t understand the “whys” of my dad’s illness, and while I worked through the emotions of losing a parent, that promise was so encouraging to me. I had witnessed the not-so-pleasant process of dying. But my dad, because of his faith in Christ, had “crossed over from death to life.” He had crossed over from death to eternal life!
God does not waste words. His inspired message is to teach us and encourage us. Scripture is His love letters that show us the way to Him and guides us to His heart. I don’t know what you’re going through. I know that some of you are going through some pretty tough stuff. I encourage you to spend time in Scripture. Read through the Psalms. Read through the Gospel of John. While I don’t know your situation, I do know this—His word will give you hope. Read it and be encouraged./p>
