You see the Bible sitting there.
You claim to believe the Bible.
You might even go to a church that teaches the Bible.
But what is the big deal about the Bible anyways? Is it just a nice book full of good stories?
It is a good helpful, how-to manual for life?
Or is there something more to it?
Christians believe that the Bible has something more. We believe the Bible was actually written by God. This is called inspiration.
In 2 Timothy we read that "all Scripture is given by inspiration." That word, "inspiration" means "God-breathed." 2 Peter 1:21 says that "holy men of God spoke as they were moved."
Essentially the Bible is everything God wanted man to hear. And so God wrote it down, using 40 different authors in different time periods. Those authors used their own unique literary styles, but the words they used were God's words to man.
People often say, "If God would just talk to me, I'd believe." Well, God has, thru his Word. And we don't just believe that the Bible is God's words from long ago. We believe the Bible is alive and rich and full of life.
It has principles and practices to help you live your life. But most of all, it's the unfolding narrative of God's love for you and His love for me. It is how God communicates to us.
So next time you look at your Bible, don't look at it like an ordinary book. Read it, know it, study it, memorize it, and meditate on it. Because it contains the words of life.
