Isaiah 60:15 (NIV®)
“Although you have been forsaken and hated . . . I will make you the everlasting pride and the joy of all generations.”
“You’re going to be hated by everybody.” God is speaking very plainly to the Jewish people about how they can expect to be treated. Historically, that unreasoning hatred has worn many labels: the Spanish Inquisition, the Russian pogroms, Hitler’s Final Solution. And anti-Semitism is still alive and well today. But then He says, “In spite of that hatred, I’m going to use you to bring joy to every generation.” That’s a wonderful promise because if God can do it in the lives of the Jewish people, He can do it in your life and mine. When you are in one of those places that feels painful, that feels unfair and unjust, remember that God can turn that into triumph for you.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Jewish people. You are faithful and just in all Your ways to every generation. Give me a renewed boldness to proclaim You as the source of everything good in my life. Help me to live so that I may be called Your pride and joy. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, that You may rule and reign in the hearts of all Your chosen ones. In Jesus’ name, amen.
