Our Servant Example
Acts 3:13 (NIV®)
“The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus.”
It seems odd to call Jesus a “servant” of God. Jesus is the incarnate Son of God—God come to earth in the flesh. We can see in the attitude He expressed toward God and toward other people that Jesus understood His life to be defined by the mission of serving God. When He was in a place where He was threatened or tempted, He was serving a higher agenda. When He was facing betrayal and arrest and the horror that was coming, He prayed, “Father, I’d really rather not do this. Nevertheless, it’s not what I want, but what You want.” That’s the attitude of a servant, and Jesus lived it out in a remarkable way.
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, as our Savior and Lord, our pattern for faith and practice. Show me anew every day how to define my life and ministry as Your servant. Give me humility to always seek Your will and not my own. In Your Son’s name I pray, amen.
