New Insights on the Breastplate of Righteousness

God recently revealed new insight into the Breastplate of Righteousness. It coincides with the theme of responding in Christ and wearing the shoes fitted for the Gospel of Peace, rather than merely reacting based on emotion. The following Scriptures ring true for me in this regard:

Psalm 85:10 states “Righteousness and peace kiss each other.” In fact, if we back up and read more, the entire verse 10-13 is amazing.

Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.

Proverbs 21:21 states, He who peruses righteousness and love

Jeremiah 23:6, states, The LORD our Righteousness

Studying the Word typically leads me to study the definition of certain words.

Definition of Righteous:proved to be what is just, deserved, morally right.

Jesus is our righteousness because he suffered for what we deserved and in so doing paid the price for our sins. He is our righteousness.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Matthew 5:6

I am so excited about this because when we hunger and thirst for Him, He will fill us. We often get misled thinking drink, food, things, or people will fill us and quench us; but when we really get a hold of Christ being the One who can, He does it. It’s like He was patiently waiting for us to put the drink, the food, or the material thing down, and turn away from mere man, and then look to Him and say, “Please fill my hunger and quench my thirst.” and He does it! I pray that we all will fall more and more in Love with Him every day.

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through is blood, shed on the cross.

Colossians 1:19-20.

The fruit of righteousness will be peace. Isaiah 32:17

Wow, responding in the righteousness of Christ produces the fruit of peace in our life. This is so cool!

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God, that is ----- our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

1 Corinthians 1:30

The Word is amazing because it always accomplishes something new in us. We can go to the Word one moment and God will show us one thing, and then a day or a week or a year later, He’s got something brand new waiting for us there! The Word is truly alive and active.

Let me explain: when I look back at the lesson about the breastplate in The Warrior Mom Handbook, I am excited, but when I look at what God is showing me through His righteousness now (this moment), I am even more excited! In the WM Handbook, I write about spending as much time going to God as they did in making the breastplate. I write about the difference between learning how to distinguish between emotion and God’s will, and this is an important thing to learn. It’s so important to be able to respond through the love and wisdom of Christ rather than merely react based on our own emotions…. WOW, BUT NOW….. I can now see how Christ as our Righteousness allows us to do that.  A fruit that buds from wearing the Righteousness of Christ produces Peace. I challenge you to look up scriptures on righteousness and see what God reveals to you today. And more so, I pray that you would become joyfully excited about what He will do, in, through, and for you as a result!
