"What I Tell You in the Dark Speak in the Light..." - Warrior Mom Wisdom - Week of June 27

Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

“WHAT I TELL YOU IN THE DARK SPEAK IN THE LIGHT…”

Matthew 10:27

About 12 years ago, I was waiting for my coffee in a McDonald’s Drive through at 6 am. My son, Jacob, had recently received his cochlear implant, and we were leaving early to get to The Atlanta Speech School by 7 am. I don’t remember why I didn’t have my own coffee. I always traveled with a travel size mug; maybe I needed extra that day. I probably left mine at home. As I sat there waiting for the window to open and receive the steaming cup of heaven, God spoke:

“What I tell you in the darkness speak in the light.”

I was new to hearing God speak. I simply said, “Okay…” but I was confused.

God spoke to me the first time when I heard Him say “Jacob,” in the middle of the night (before I was planning on or even knew I was pregnant with my son, Jacob.”) I imagined that God was referring to this journey of deafness to definite hope. I would speak in the light after we made it through this very dark time in our lives. I prayed constantly that I’d survive it.

We did survive it. Jacob is almost 13. He was mainstreamed into regular classes in Kindergarten, and God has gifted him with intelligence beyond his years. Actually, I would have to say, God has given Jacob even more wisdom than intelligence – which is a lot! It’s all amazing, and it’s to and for God’s glory. I praise Him for it continually.

Last week, God reminded me of what He said when I sat at the McDonald’s drive through window 12 years ago. God told me that it’s time to speak in the light. He reminded me that He’s brought us out of the darkness, and it’s time to proclaim in from the roof tops. I got excited. I also realized just how far God has brought Jacob, me, and our entire family. Those were some dark years full of long drives to Atlanta. The silence of deafness almost took the life out of me, but God was faithful. God spoke to me in the darkness of it all – in order that He would get the glory – in order that His light could be brought to more moms waiting in McDonald’s drive through windows in the dark hours and moments of the heart.

Warriors, God is faithful. Hold onto God more firmly than you hold onto your to-go coffee cup and He will rejuvenate you 100 times more than that java, and we all know that’s a lot!
