“Then the Lord raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the royal line in Edom.”(1 Kings 11:14,)
We sometimes slip into the mode of thinking that God is always for us and against our enemies. It may just be that God is for neither!
The Lord was not a fan of Hadad the Edomite, but God raised Him up as an adversary to Solomon because, in his old age, Solomon had left the faith of his youth and gone after other gods.
Even “Solomon, in all his glory” is not above the righteous hand of God. I pray that I will always see God as Holy and separate from my affairs, and never as One who is my “go-to man” for getting things done on my behalf. I pray for the constant awareness that God has the right to turn against me. I pray that this awareness motivates me to walk in a manner that his honoring to God.
