Is George W. Bush Commander-in-Chief or Commander-of-Conspiracies?

Let me open by saying that I do believe in conspiracies as long as they aren't all orchestrated by men in black helicopters! My take on the subject is that Satan proclaimed himself to be the "chief conspirator" in Heaven, then got thrown out and now leads one on earth. He talks about it in Isaiah 14:14 where he says he will be like God. He's tried to gather billions into his scheme since the beginning of time. The book of Revelation talks about a one world system led by the antichrist. All of this is a part of "the great conspiracy."

But I do grow weary of the people who write me-many Christians among them-who insist that George W. Bush is a conspirator. Some are supporters of my ministry. I get it when terrorists, leftists, communists, socialists, and the media think he is a dumb cowboy. I don't get it when solid conservatives and Christians tell me he is a member of secret societies plotting the downfall of America.

One suggested to me that such a secret society linked to the president actually orchestrated 9/11 to prepare America to accept the Patriot Act that will lead us into the "New World Order"-a term coined by his father. I hear from others who say he is orchestrating a pre-election attack to justify the final take-over of America by military and police forces! I can't make things like this up!

There is always reference to his membership in Yale's "Skull & Bones." Many critics tell me the entire Bush family is the instrument of Satan as the family has been a member for three generations. I'm not exactly sure how fewer than 500 "bonesmen" who climb into a coffin in their senior year at Yale and pour Gatorade over their bodies to look like blood are now candidates for the antichrist. My imagination can't be stretched that far!

I cannot picture George W. Bush as evil. He's going after evil in caves and God-forsaken places on earth. He's declared war on the "axis of evil." He says he has a special role to play in God's unveiling of history. He says that God had a hand in his presidency and that he prays before major decisions. He prays in the Oval office when you-know-who did you-know-what in that office. He says he's unworthy of God's favor, but he is grateful for it. And he is "Commander-in-Chief" not "Theologian-in-Chief."

Yet many Christians say he cannot be a Christian because he "shows no fruit" and that he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. He's nothing but a Saudi boot-licking phony. Oil, power, and greed are his only motives.

I'm not a "blind Republican." I am troubled by many things over the last almost four years. His amnesty for illegal aliens in the midst of our war on terror would be a disaster. I'm uncomfortable with the Koran paraded around the White House during Ramadan. His pressure on Israel to divide the land is troubling. His politics aren't that of a conservative but rather a big-spending moderate.

But now is not the time to beat up on the president who inherited a broken-down intelligence system and when only in office for eight months was the president on duty for one of the worst disasters in American history-9/11. He came into office when America was, and still is, at a crossroads morally, spiritually, and politically. To the best of his ability and that of his intelligence staff, he is trying to protect our nation from a catastrophe hard to comprehend, since the enemy's next attack inside our borders could be with weapons of mass destruction. He needs prayer for Divine wisdom, not wild accusations that he's orchestrating this or using the "war on terror" for political gain.

As I write this, word has come out in The Washingon Times that al-Qaida wants to assassinate a leading U.S. political figure. Is the target our president, God forbid? A new book is about to surface on how to assassinate George W. Bush. Doesn't this indicate that we ought to be praying for the president and not labeling him unfit to serve and participating in diabolical schemes to gain total, dictatorial control as the conspiracy-theorists claim? Shouldn't believers be on their knees praying for him, his cabinet, and his family rather than wasting precious time suggesting he is a world conspirator plotting how to turn America into an Orwellian police state? What misplaced energy on the part of some! Believers should know better. I urge all Christians to re-examine a preoccupation with conspiratorial thoughts that when left unchecked turn into bizarre thinking that is counterproductive to America.
