You Shall Not Covet

“You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.” Exodus 20:17

We shall not covet…yet we do it all the time. We leverage our lifestyles with credit and debt in order to live up to someone else’s standards.

We purchase more home than we can afford, we justify spending excessive amount of money on cars and enslave ourselves for years to banks and loan companies. Envy, coveting and the sense of “I deserve this” is often at the root of our financial decision-making.

God’s word offers a better way. It offers freedom from the slavery of debt, freedom from envy and chasing after the riches of this world. If envy and coveting is something you struggle with, spend time this week asking God to help you chase after Him and not after the pleasure of this world!
