This is an excellent, down-to-earth article. I highly recommend it to everyone. However, the ideas aren't new just resurrected. I was raised on Jill's suggestions. they were common practice when I was a child growing up in the '40's and 50's. When I married in '62 this was how I handled my grocery shopping on a weekly basis. Purchase enough for the week. At the end of the week the 'fridge was once again almost empty and I'd start the process over again. Bulk buying and storing were not the norm other than the fact that women put down the produce from their kitchen gardens.
