Although, I understand the point of the author and the research to back it up. Not everyone fits this creed. Being a busy woman, self employed & full time college student with a family, I encourage my family to get me gift certificates that I enjoy; such as restaurants. Any night I don't have to cook is a God send! When I buy gift certificates for my family and friends; I always buy where they shop. I take great consideration into what gift card I buy, if I don't buy a personalized gift. For example, if I know my sisters shop at Nordstrom instead of Mervyn's, obviously I would buy a card at Nordstrom. My mom shops at Ross (which I don't care for), but I'll go to Ross and buy her a gift card, because that's where she likes to shop. You have to take the person's likes and dislikes into consideration when shopping for a gift card.
