I am impressed with all the comments on here about tithing. It seems that there is a large push against the movement. There is great momentum to expose the truth about this subject. http://churchtithesandofferings.com/

I believe that the single mother that loves God and gives what she can will be honored and blessed by God.

It is unfortunate that the Tithing debate amounts to nothing more than what the Bible says vs what my pastor says, Truth vs Tradition, Scriptural deduction (taking out of) vs Scriptural induction (reading into)...I know we need saints to give for the financial well being of the church. And ministers that harp on 10% might be doing it for that reason..but just as they tell us to tithe and just trust God, why not tell the people the truth and trust God that they will still give...or even give more than 10%.

Also, we can give 10% out of religion all we want, but we are still responsible for being stewards of the 90% that remain..Tithing and still broke? Well makes no sense giving to God then going out and racking up debt irresponsibly.

How obvious is it that Tithing is an O.T./Old Covenant practice? Yet we still have leaders like the author of this article who continuously harp on the 10% figure.

Tithing refers to a percentage. Tithe in essence means a tenth. Tithing is not mandatory but giving is. Yet our giving should be a mattter of the heart. One who has a heart towards God will give as much as they possibly can...for some that might be 20%, some might be able to give 15%, yet some might only be able to give under 10%. In any event beating folks over the head with the 10% figure unbiblical.

When do we rob God? I believe the New Testament saint robs God when he is able to give $10..but only give $5 because he wants to buy a flat screen tv or some fancy gadget. But can we say that a single mother with mouths to feed who is only ablt to give a certain amount is robbing God? How do you think she must feel with that hanging over her head when all she is trying to do is feed her children? (con't on next post)

I was studying about "tithing" and I don't tithe any more because the LORD has given me understanding that he does not want us to give our 10%. Tithing is no where in the new testament only in the old. Any ways why do pastor's go for the tithing $-MONEY and not animals they are both in the old testament. It seems like they just ignore the rest and choose the $. I don't think God wants our 10% when 100% is his. We should use our $ the way God would want us to.
If Pastor's would stop receiving tithes they would all be in the streets evangelizing the world, going door to door like back in the days.......times have changed & they don't even think about doing that. They expect the members to do every thing & they just sit there waiting for people to bring more people and receive more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I woud recomend every body to read the Bible for them selfs & really study about tithing before they agree w/me. Where we put our $ is where our heart is.............

WE do not live under the old covenant, If you are a christian you live under the new covenant and free will
giving. Jesus, his deciples, tentmakers, judges, brick layers, and all trades did not tithe. The only tithers
were farmer products from the land and herdsmen. The levites
collected the tithes of a tenth and gave the priests a tenth of that tenth. The levites were the 13 tribe or the
decendants of Aaron. They were the only ones allowed by the mosiac law to collect the tithe. When the temple was destroyed
they lost the Aaron lineage and there was no more tithing
under the mosiac laws.after Jesus death there was no more tithing, only free will giving and there is nothing in the
new covenant that requires anything except free will giving.
The old covenant is history. Read Hebrews 8: 6-13 and
you will see the old covenant is history.

I get a kick out of reading responses when there is an article on tithing. Mankind is so extraordinarily stingy! If God hadn't given us a starting place for giving at 10%, the human race would think it was being super generous to give God 1.5%. No, tithing is a truth detector of our attitude toward God. When we begrudge God 10% of all the provision he's brought our way, there is a problem with our heart. I double-dog dare you to live "dangerously" and give him more than 10%. He and His mission here on Earth are well worth it!

I really appreciate those of you that are courageous enough to stand up to the misinformation of the tithe. I believe that the tithe is for the O. T. believers, only. N.T. believers are under grace and II Corinthians 9:7. Acts 15:28-29, would have been the perfect place for the Lord to instruct us to tithe in the N.T. Paul writes that we are to "abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality."
Isn't it strange that the Levical Priests did not inherit land when they came into the promised land. They took their pay from the tithe. Compare that to todays preachers that are rolling in the money and materialistic pleasures that were once reserved only for the nations richest people. The church that I once attended gave the pastor a $60,000 going away gift. They than took an offering for the custodian's overdue hospital bill since the church didn't provide health insurance and $9 an hour doesn't go very far these days.

This was a wonderful article that was so timely. God NEVER fails to confirm the truth you share with others. I felt compelled to write this due to a comment made by a previous writer. As a tither, tithing for me is a "heart" issue. I, as a Christian, in no way ever feel as though I am being lied to by God's very Word, no coerced or made to give back to God, what is ultimately already His. For me it is a very humbling experience, one that allows me to enter into the very presence of a Holy God. Yes, Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, but by becoming that ultimate sacrifice He cancelled out all the "old debts." There was a time in my life when I was not so "giving", but when God dealt with my heart and revealed to me where my "true" treasures were, I was able to see Him like I had never seen Him before. "Knowing" Jesus illuminates areas in your life that truly need to be released to Him. Thank you my Heavenly Father for your Son Jesus!

Tithing is an eternal truth of the scripture that gives the believer a sure foothold on the shifting sands of todays economy. For one living in a developing country like the one i live in,where people mostly have to survive and raise their families on less than a dollar a day;I have seen faithful tithers receive supernatural supplers and outstanding deliverance again and again.Just last december,my wive lost her job with a government parastatal, this did not deter us,however, from paying our tithe out of her last pay cheque in addition to sowing a substantial seed.Miraculously,on the 25th of december she got an sms informing her that she had been recalled to her job;indeed the scriptures cannot be broken. And in trying to break them we end up having breakdowns instead of breakthroughs.

Malachi 3:10 has nothing to do with your pay check. Tithes were specific animals, crops from the land that HAD to be BURNT to the Lord using specific methods, and placed upon a divinely created alter, NOT to be offered on any alter. Tithes were offered ONCE a year, or every 3 years. Tithe were BLOOD SACRIFICES for sin and specific crops that were shared w/ Widows, orphans & aliens. This is how God doesn’t change. Jesus was the ONLY perfect sacrifice and to be a pure Christian we are to take care of the WIDOWS, orphans and aliens-not make a preacher rich-who doesn’t take care of the widows orphans and strangers. Why should they be treated better than Jesus, who at times didn’t have a place to rest his head? There were 613 Jewish laws, and tithing was just one of them, and if we practice one law we are to practice ALL, like: do not to eat pork, leaven bread, circumcism, exclude women from temple while menstration. It is good to give, but not under coersion, guilt trips, and lies

Thanks for this timely and great article. I am always amazed at the people who are against this teaching. It seems if you try hard enough you can find scripture to support a number of positions. Most systematic tithers have arrived at their unwavering belief in the principle through personal revelation from God and seeing it work time after time.

I run a business and despite lucrative contracts I could never make ends meet. There was a proverbial hole in my bucket until God spoke to me through a TBN programme about tithing. I started in January 2007 and never looked back. I have seen God provide money where only He could. At least 6 times I thought I came to a dead end where I would have to close the business only for a creditor to give me more time or unsuspecting business showed up at the last minute.

God said to test him with your tithe. I have seen my car miraculously repaired saving me hundreds and clients realizing they had owed me money that I did not even know about. Just a few days ago I got a bank transfer of $10,000 unsuspectingly. A client had been underpaying me by around $40 a day for the past year on a service agreement. The computer picked it up and they refunded me. That money was so needed and only God knew where it was.

I am reminded that while Abraham was walking up the mountain with Isaac, the lamb was walking up the other side. God had my provision all along and revealed it at the right moment. We just need to obey and trust Him.

When I think of Christians asking themselves whether "tithing" as commanded in the Bible,is Old Testament or New Testament teaching, I wonder how many of these Christians "send back" the many scriptural blessings God has given His people in the Old Testament. How many people when they are blessed and given hope through the mention of God's Works, Words etc.through the Old Testament Scriptures say "I don't receive this or that blessing or confirmation because it's in the Old Testament"?

It's sad to see Christians question the validity of tithing in the Church today. Perhaps the question some need to ask themselves is why is it so hard to release back to God what He has given us the strength to make anyway - money. Could it be that indeed where our treasures are so are our hearts and many of our treasures, even as Christians, are still under our control and not under God's control?

Brothers & sisters, simply said, tithing is an issue of the heart and who will reign supreme in it.
