I believe the church is coming around on this issue and we are finding our way to a more balanced exposition of how God directs us to manage our sexuality.

After years of speaking only to the deficits of sex (adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lust), we are learning how to extol its virtues, unapologetically. More of us are hearing the word sex...and turning more muted colors!

Some older christians treat sex as a taboo word as if sex didn't bring us all here. We have tried to change the mindset of the younger generation. I have held many discussions on the topic over my last 18 years and I beleive the young Christians in my church understands that sex is good, God made it, and it is His design that it should be enjoyed within marriage. Married couples need to be sexually creative, dress sexy for their spouse. This will help to keep your eyes inside the marriage instead of longingly looking out. There is always somebody else willing to do it for your spouse. God loves it when His children enjoy what He has created including SEX!!!

Amen! My wife was so negatively brainwashed that, even after 18 years of marriage, she still is unwilling and unable to relate to me sexually. Early in our marriage I told her things that I would like, and she looked at me as if I had a third eye. Then she said "I wasn't raised that way".

Years later the same attitude is still there. No sexy nightgowns. Nothing that might visually stimulate me (after all, good girls just don't do that). The unending "no" list.

It has created a HUGE negative impact on our marriage. So much that I sometimes find myself wishing I had married a non-Christain instead of a Christian (yes, I know there would be so many other issues there -- and I know that the results of such disobediance would have been far worse than what I have now).

It is time that we quit teaching our kids that sex is bad! Instead we need to teach them how great it is in marriage, and why they should wait to experience and give this great gift. Not taboo, just patience.

Thank you so much for your article on "Sex and the Christian Marriage". My husband and I have been married for almost 12 years, and this can still be an issue for me. Our sexual relationship needs a lot of prayer in order to prevent the enemy from taking a foothold in our marriage. I have definitely found that what we see on t.v. influences our perception of what sex is suppose to be like. I also struggled w/ "smut" books for years until my mother explained it like this: you open the door to temptation and satan just a little bit and he'll take the opportunity to kick the door down at the first opportunity! You allow that junk into your mind, and it is very hard to make it disappear! After that I changed the type of books that I read, and trust me there is an abunadance of good christian fiction out there that will satisfy any romantic! I just wish that there was more "wholesome" t.v. available as well.

Great article! And I wholeheartedly agree about Christian fiction. It is a wonderful way to illustrate what a beautiful marriage should look like. I grew up reading Janette Oke's books and they truly helped me love and appreciate my husband and my children more. There is so much excellent fiction there now that does NOT contain the graphic sex, violence and language of most novels in the bookstore. I always enjoy Betsy St. Amant's articles. Keep them coming!
