I'm a little confused about the writer's cautionary comment concerning environmentalist. "Environmentalism: Though not preachy, the film has a mild pro-environment message that distorts the biblical idea of man’s dominion over creation. (emphasis mine)" It is true the Bible says that it made man to rule over the earth and all that is in it, but what does the Bible have to say about ruling? Jesus certainly didn't come to rule with an iron fist, but with servanthood. The Bible also makes a close connection between man's sin and creation's anguish (Gen 4:11) showing us that it's our sin that affects creation negatively. Even the story of Noah's ark shows god immense care for creation. When will Christians be able to get over the fact that environmentalism is often associated with the "left" and be able to join in protecting and caring for God's creation on a biblical basis instead of opposing it on a political basis.

Although Evan Almighty contained some of the typical Hollywood humor that you would expect, it all also went in some very non-typical Hollywood directions. I was amazed at the way this movie portrayed the character of God as one who has a sense of humor, He disciplines His children out of true love for them and He desires a close and active relationship with them. All in all, this is probably the comedy I have seen in years and will challenge how you view God and just how you think He is responding to our prayers!

I was suprised at Evan Almighty. I thought that I would cringe at the blasphamies in it, however I found that the movie acctually promoted Christinanity in a positive way, and I even was glad my husband was watching it, I was hoping he'd take notes! I highly recommend it, it does not make fun of scripture, and the flood is not what you think.

I don't always have to see a movie to make a judgement. The world along with Hollywood is laughing it's way to hell. When it comes to the Holy Word of God and His righteous judgements we should not be laughing, poking fun or taking it lightly.

I appreciate the feedback from maein and would ask that they help me then since I have not seen the movie. My Bible says in Genesis 9:15 "I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life." If the ads for this movie are accurate, it appears God is sending the waters to become a flood to destroy life. Whether it is only on a small scale (a community as I hear) or on a large scale (the world), it seems to demonstrate a contradiction with Scripture. James Dobson also notes other Scriptural errors. There is only one message that any movie prooting a Biblical theme should deliver, and that would be the message of Jesus Christ as Savior. Anything else might be a wonderful, nice, happy message, but not Boblically themed. If I have missed something please help me understand.

I'm dissapointed that a most of the commenters here didn't even see the movie before passing judgement. I must say that I wasn't overly excited about the film before seeing and I was apprehensive regarding the Biblicality (is that a word?) of the flood story. It was completely compatible with my Bible! There were a lot of good messages and a great story. Fun for the whole family!

I'll agree with MyDadsTheKing. I will not leave my beliefs at home (call it legalism if you will). David delighted in the laws of God, so I guess that made him a legalist after God's own heart. I believe that the points made are accurate in that the film presents a false view of biblical truth. I don't object to humor, only when it is at the expense of the Lord and His Truth. You have to stand for something or you stand for nothing. I stand for the same thing in my church as I do at the movie theater. I see more danger in a film like this than in others that create fear in the Christian community like a Harry Potter film. The biggest difference is that one masquerades as something it is not. Be blessed and be wise to the truth in Christ.

Wow, we need to seriously lighten up. If you watched the movie, God didn't flood the world again, but destroyed a master planned community built upon greed. While I do agree that depending on humans will disappoint you every time, I wonder how hearts of unbelievers will be changed? It isn't dirty (despite the comments about bird droppings under violence...please!). It gives those who have never been exposed to the bible a good idea of what God is about. Leave your legalism at home if you plan on seeing this movie.

Thank you for the list of unobvious cautions. This list further seals it, that I will not be watching this movie....even if it were free.

CAUTIONS:

Language/Profanity: Lord’s name taken in vain; some crude terms and references to animal anatomy.

Drugs/Alcohol: None, but a few jokey references, such as “Are you shooting up Rogaine?”

Sex/Nudity: Husband and wife are pictured in bed, talking; Evan walks out of his house naked without realizing it, but the nakedness is not shown

Violence: Comic moments, such as a dog biting a man in the crotch, construction accidents during the building of the ark, and quite a few bird droppings.

Prayer/Faith: Evan’s wife prays for the family to be closer, but Evan, a man of little faith, asks for God’s help to change the world.

Environmentalism: Though not preachy, the film has a mild pro-environment message that distorts the biblical idea of man’s dominion over creation.

It does appear that the reviewer is supporting this film and I noticed that the movie is presented as a Crosswalk supporter. That disappoints me.

Here's why my family won't be going to see this movie:
1. God said He'd never flood the earth again, so young children might believe that God wasn't serious when He made this promise.
2. If we promote "believing in each other", we will always be let down. The only faithful one we can believe in is the ever faithful God of the Bible.
3. Children accept what we do more than what we say. If we support this film by viewing it, we say that it's really okay to take the Lord's Name in vain, get hit in the crotch, etc as long if it's for comedy purposes. When do we as adults start living to a higher standard?

Each of us has the privilege of leading our families down a Godly path. How we do it is up to us. I hope we'll model right choices for our children in all areas of our lives.

The reviewer seems to like this movie. Too bad the reviewer has not read the Bible in recent decades. Mocking God is never the right thing to do. Using God as a character in a movie with a distinct environmentalist-whacko message is just about as near to blaspheny as anyone can get. I don't see why the reviewer says that the violent moments are funny. Maybe comedy was funny before the Three Stooges or Lucille Ball, but it hasn't been funny since. I cannot say more about this travesty as well as the author of this review: http://www.onenewsnow.com/2007/06/movie_review_false_theology_si.php, but thanX!! for allowing this rant.
