I just watched two of these movies because they seemed to be okay in our larger Christian community.

I am sorry - this is not the Batman of our childhood.

I would not recommend allowing your children to see these movies, nor watching them yourself.

Shouldn't we be somewhere else, doing the Lord's work? Whatever does He think of us, as He sees us sitting here filling our minds and sight and hearing with such as this? Passive input of evil. Visually almost impossible to forget. How can we concentrate on Jesus with input like that?

I regret that I saw these as much as I regret seeing the Passion of the Christ.

Jesus did not tell us to watch movies like Batman, but to follow Him.
Let's think on this,

Good script and convincing performances by actors set in a macabre environment. Aside the utter abandonment of comic book lore surrounding Joker and Two Face the producers go out of their way to celebrate violence and destruction, a sad cry from the more constructive Batman movie of 1989 that does a better job balancing Good and Evil in Gotham City. Halfway though the movie the story is in a continual downward spiral from the sublime to the mundane. Despite the bombs on the boats that test ‘the populace’ integrity and renews our faith in humanity the constant barrage of disillusionment overshadows that effort. Moreover, at the end of the movie viewers are left with a very slim ray of hope…Batman is vilified except to the little boy who regards him as a hero and Gotham City is darker than ever “Hope deferred makes The Heart sick”. Not a movie for Christians who purpose to look at the world through God’s lenses and not Man’s, 1 Peter 3:8-9 and Philippians 4:8. MPAA Rating should be R

I watched The Dark Knight the weekend it came out I think its one of the best movies I have ever seen in my 8 years of watching movies. There are some negative comments from users about how dark this movie is. Those negative commentators should realize.... THATS THE WHOLE REASON FOR BATMANS EXISTENCE! IF GOTHAM CITY WASNT DARK, BATMAN WOULDNT HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT IT! I think those of you who commented so negatively on this movie are just paranoid. This movie is a great movie despite what all of you say. Be sure to read Giacooper465 comments on this movie.

If you are not convicted against seeing a film that uses the Lord's name in vain, there that is your conviction. I am convicted to not see the film unless I do not hear such language. Some people don't notice it, but I have only been in the theatre for 30 seconds at a time (30 seconds max; we have to go in and check the theatres to make sure people aren't being obnoxious and that the sound is working, etc.) and the two times I have done so I almost immediately heard God's name used in vain both times. Poor timing? Probably, but I would most definitely hear and dislike hearing all 9 instances of blasphemy. I just don't think it was necessary for them to do it in the film. I also don't see it as justifiable, the actors (and subsequently the director) are using the Lord's name is such a trivial way as to simply portray shock in a film. I don't agree with that.

I feel like several people have attacked me personally because I saw the movie and enjoyed it--though God's name was apparently used in vain. I didn't know that it was in there when I bought my ticket, nor can I honestly say that I even heard it used in vain.

Let me make this clear, I do not feel that I did anything wrong in the eyes on the Lord when I saw that movie, nor do I feel that I need to repent of anything.

I would like to say that I am thankful God has grace and and compassion

Personally, this is the only movie I want to see all year and the fact that I am not able to is really irritating to me. I also work at a movie theatre so it isn't any better. I have been trying to in the back of my mind justify the film so I could see it, but I am really convicted that the blasphemy isn't acceptable. I have been thinking of ways to avoid hearing the language too, like playing loud music in my headphones at the parts where the phrases come up, but there are a couple problems with that solution too. 1) The music may not be loud enough to drown out the word, or if it is it will make my eardrums bleed. 2) I know where 3 of the phrases occur (having to check the auditoriums at work to make sure the sound is working, etc. :-( ) but the other 6 I do not know. I am going to loathe waiting until December (most likely) to see this movie.

If we have to hear the Lord blasphemed to get a message about "heroism" or "good vs. evil" is it really worth it? Couldn't the same thing have been done without degrading the name of our Lord? You can get the same thing from the Bible, that doesn't blaspheme him. To hear someone say something because something bad is happening that isn't turning you to God, it is being used as a device in film to show emotion. Using it in that way isn't a reverent use of His name like worship would be.

How can people hear blasphemy in their media and then say that it is justified because it tells a good story and challenges our morals. If a film produces a good message, but degrades the name of the Lord it is leaving the true source of all good things out of it. Some people ask why they can't just have the morals that Christianity has without the "religious" stuff, but "there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved" than Jesus. Just watch the film w/ ClearPlay when its out on DVD

I have something to say that nobody else seems to be talking about: This movie takes the Lord's name in vain. Therefore the movie is unacceptable, period!!

It's time to stop acting in ideals and instead view the movie as a whole much like we must view the Bible, as a whole. The overall arching theme of "Dark Knight" is "Heroism." At the end of the movie, more than anything you're left with this intense feeling of responsibility. Batman is the man who does heroic things but refuses to be a public hero. He is who we are all called to be, truly Christlike at heart in how we love and help others, but without all the glamor that can come with such things. Batman, while dark in portrayal is a beacon of duty and responsibility. If a person claims this movie is evil, they have either not seen it, not paid attention to it, or they fell asleep during the previews.

I have to disagree that this movie is evil and note that those that commented as such have not actually seen the movie. As this is a Christian web sight, I have to conclude that the author holds dear to his faith in God as well and would not endorse a movie that would shame our Lord and Savior in anyway.

I personally saw the movie with my husband. As the author has described in the article, the maker of this movie has drawn some pretty startling parallels between the state of Gotham city and the state of our own country. We are living in a world where Christians and unbelievers alike are unwilling to see that we are faltering in the face of our enemies—both physical and spiritual. There were those in Gotham that had the courage to stand up against the darkness penetrating their city—no matter the cost.

If you perceive the movie as evil, then it is because Joker’s character embodies our present day evil—the evil that seems to roam freely in the streets of our cities and quiet neighborhoods alike. In my eye, he is the equivalent to Satan and his army able to walk to and fro with little resistance because the rest of us are to weak or blind to him to fight back. That is the evil that you speak of. Of course that is troubling. Of course that is dark and worrisome. But we should not pretend that it is not there. The makers of this movie, perhaps even unknowingly, spoke volumes for the sake of spiritual warfare.

My advice is to give the movie a chance before writing it off as something “worldly” and “dark”. Wake up and take a look around you. You are living in it…and it high time we learn to take courage and fight it (as dramatic as that statement may be).

Okay peoples, lighten up a bit! Although this movie is dark, it's not "evil". It may be too much for the younger children out there, but it's a great movie to say the least. The actors give out stellar performances, and the plot is wonderfully imagined. Just because something is twisted doesn't make it a completely bad thing.

I too am shocked that you would find such a dark movie o.k. We have to be so careful of the the things we put into our minds. Especially our children & youth. I think this will cause more damage than good. Just seeing the commercials was enough for me to say no thank you to this film. I won't allow my children to see the previews for the movie. The 1 time it was seen they were talking how eveil it looked & they did not want to see this film. I thank God for that! Just because there is evil & suppose to be good fighting against each other does not make it a good film or make it o.k. to put into our minds.
