(CNSNews.com) - Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., the pastor emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago where Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has been a member for two decades, slurred Italians in a piece published in the most recent issue of the church's magazine. "(Jesus') enemies had their opinion about Him," Wright wrote in a eulogy of the late scholar Asa Hilliard in the November/December 2007 issue of Trumpet Newsmagazine. "The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans. "From the circumstances surrounding Jesus' birth (in a barn in a township that was under the Apartheid Roman government that said his daddy had to be in), up to and including the circumstances surrounding Jesus' death on a cross, a Roman cross, public lynching Italian style. ..." Wright wrote.
From the cross, Jesus said "Forgive them for they know not what they do." Is it that forgiveness is only for certain circumstances? Is forgiveness for slavery and racial oppression not one of those circumstances? Have there not been great strides toward equality here in the US? Is the US to be "damned" for these strides, as the "pastor" would like to claim?
And Obama, who wants to be our president and claims to be able to unite all of us, has listened to and been counseled, for twenty years, by someone who spouts this racial hatred! It will be a cold day in you know where before Obama gets my vote.
Thanx for allowing me this little tirade.
