Four Killed in Ft. Hood, Texas Shooting, Multiple Injuries

Four people were killed in a shooting Wednesday night on the Fort Hood, Texas military base. The four includes the gunman who took his own life. Over a dozen people sustained injuries, some life-threatening.

The gunman was identified as Army Specialist Ivan Lopez, 33, of Kileen, Texas. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time reports The Washington Post.

Glen Couchman, chief medical officer at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas reported that four people had arrived for treatment at the hospital and two more were expected to come.

The injuries “range from stable to quite critical,” Couchman said.

President Obama addressed the nation saying, “I want to just assure all of us we are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened. We’re heartbroken something like this might have happened again.”

Another shooting occurred at Fort Hood in 2009, killing 13 people. Authorities have made no connection between the shootings.

Sen. John Cornyn said, “The scenes coming from Fort Hood today are sadly too familiar and still too fresh in our memories. No community should have to go through this horrific violence once, let alone twice.”
