To appreciate this movie, we need to see it for its symbolic significance. First, think about the symbolism of vampires. Vampires are dead on the inside and survive by feeding on other people, suck the life out of others. Isn't that how the world often "lives"? People put others down and take advantage of others in order to feel better about themselves or to gain more prestige/power/money. Secondly, the male lead's self restraint (from getting sexually involved) is a great example of the difficulty of sexual purity and reminds us that without self control, we hurt others. The author of this review, while complaining that there is no reason for the attraction between the two leads, fails to recognize that often we fall in love with the wrong people for the wrong reasons. I found these two messages very thoughtful. I don't understand why Christians easily accept "Lord of the Rings" but don't give other movies like Twilight a chance

Folklore states that - A vampire is the manifestation of an unclean spirit possessing a decomposing body. This undead creature is considered to be vengeful and jealous towards the living and needing the blood of the living to sustain its body's existence.

Does this sound Godly to anyone? Does this sound like something that pleases the Lord and that we should be mediating on?

I haven't seen this movie, but after reading the review, I don't really see any reason why I shouldn't, or why it shouldn't have beeen reviewed by Crosswalk. It's fantasy, because as everyone keeps mentioning - vampires do not really exist!! It's a romance, and apparently one that is chaste compared to the many television sitcoms available to us. Several of the teenagers I know have seen this movie and are talking about it. I haven't heard anything negative, or any conversations that would cause me to be concerned for the welfare of their souls. They enjoyed the storyline, they enjoyed the romance, they enjoy talking about the characters. They realize that this is just what it is - a fictional movie. I'm thinking that I will go see this movie, and possibly take my daughter with me.

I am not a big movie fan but watched this one because my girlfriend insisted. Funny how we see things differently; she left feeling all wonderful about the great romance, the young girl falling in love despite overwhelming impossibilities. I saw a girl stupidly falling in love with this person who was not a good guy; he admitted to killing people in the past and he told her to stay away from him for her own good. A relationship with him would prove to be fatal one day as she would eventually become what he was. The movie ended with the indication that he woul eventually give in to her insistence that he bite her. I understand it is a love story and a chic flick, I suppose it frustrates me so because I listen to so many women find themselves in abusive relationships somehow believing ultimatly he is a good man, despite the evidence against him.

I read Twilight and am a practicing Christian. I for a while loved the love story of Edward and Bella, but after i read it a few times i saw some things in there, subtle things that are really against Christianity. I know the Bible says love does not rejoice in evil, and everyone who reads Twilight roots for Bella to give up her soul for Edward. which is not right! Nothing is more worth it than God! Also Bella talks about Heaven being Hell without Edward-which also isn't right and she talks about how she doesn't see how God would be good for not letting Edward in Heaven!!!!

This is not right forso many reasons. First off vampires dont exist, butif they did God wouldn't condemn them for just being bitten, he would judge them as he judges everyone else. but they dont even exist and i believe the whole "vampires cant go to heaven" arguement shouldnt even be an issue, people they dont exist!

And twilight doesnt give glory to God or His Word, and bellas obsession w/eward isnt healthy!

This is a movie about vampires folks. Vampires are not real; they are a creation of the imagination, just as Frankenstein and the Hobbits from Lord of the Rings. The strange creatures from The Chronicles Of Narnia, written by the very famous Christian author C. S. Lewis, has many creations from the imagination of Lewis and some dark and brooding.

Are we trying to eradicate all creativity. Is every creature that can't be identified as a saved being something to condemn. As was pointed out in one post, Edward (the lead vampire) is trying to salvage his soul. He thinks he's condemned because he was bitten, but still he fights to live contrary to his natural desires.

I don't know about the last two books, but what I've read and seen so far are less racy than spy stories, and most romance novels I've heard mentioned. There are other imaginative works out there. We have to use our experiences and God's help in deciding what we do, but we shouldn't condemn things out of hand.

I am a 60 year old male, and I have been happily for 40 years, and a Christian since 12. I find this review bringing the facts to the wrong conclusion. It's a very good movie and stays very close to the book. I have only read the first two books for now, but I plan to read the other two.

The review suggests things that just weren't there. There is a mention of Bella wearing a negligee. I didn't notice that. I would have thought I would have seen it, because that certainly wasn't in the book. I don't think the male lead (Edward) was ever in the room when she was in anything daring. Yes, once they were laying on a made bed talking, which isn't a good idea I admit.

Also, a prolonged fight between vampire clans was a stretch. Compared to the book this was very short. The review made the movie sound undeveloped, and somewhat raunchy. It was a love story, but the undeveloped characters she mentioned aren't developed to any extent in the first two books either and not important to the plot.

HELLO????? This is a vampire movie HELLO??? A Christian website doesn't need to review this movie. IT'S ABOUT VAMPIRES - HELLO????? Enough said.

SSome of you have good points about guarding your hearts, and we should, by all means, be doing just that.
However, I think this is a good movie to excercise your "discernment" skills. Too often kids are not allowed to build strong dicernment skills. Instead of forbidding them to see something, because it has a few objectional parts, parents should use this movie as an opportunity for discussion with their teenage daughters.
Watch it with your children, and then discuss it!
Help them to see where the movie coincides with God's Word, and where it doesn't.
Teenagers will be much better prepared for going into the world by doing this, rather than putting your hand over their eyes and refusing to let them recognize what is wrong.
Of course, as a parent it is your job, to pick and choose what is appropriate and what is not. I'm certainly not ssaying you should let your kids see anything and everything.

The problem with Christian Movie reviewing as a profession [No offense to the person writing this particular review] I think -is that the reviewer almost has to violate their own conscience to do their job - which in turn, prevents them from doing the job of recommending movies for Christians.

You have to sit through a movie and watch all the bad stuff, so you can analyze it and prepare a report on its appropriateness. But when you continue to sit and watch the movie, after you know it has some profanity or some other immorality in it, you are lessening your own ability to discern the evil. Overtime, your sense of shock at sin is much less, and you end up recommending movies that would have shocked you had you watched them a few years ago.

This is how we get Christians debating the pros and cons of vampire movies.

Same princple applies to the rest of us watching most popular movies and television. I know I've seen this in myself - anyone else have the same experience?
