This article could have been written about me. I have recently been verbally attacted and ridiculed at my Congregational, UCC, church for standing firm on the belief that the Bible is true and should be followed. If the Bible lists a issue as a sin, we should believe that God still considers it a sin todya. Thank you for this insightful and encouraging article. I may just post it on the wall at church. Please keep reminding people that at some point we will be judged by God and how we stand up for Jesus and the Bible will count! The lukewarm approach is not the answer.

And which "truth" would Mr. MacArthur demand be told? Why his of course.

Like all "traditional" pastors Mr. MacArthur assumes that only his doctrine (and in his case it is Calvinism) is correct and so he will not allow anyone to question him. That is why he is so adamantly against any so-called "emergent" pastors even suggesting that others be allowed to speak or question him during his "preaching." An average person without the high level of theological training (or is it brainwashing) that Mr. MacArthur has just couldn't KNOW God better than he does, could they? At least that's what he thinks.

Sorry, Mr. MacArthur, your Doctorate of Divinity (what an oxymoron) means nothing. You successfully regurgitated what was taught to you at some seminary and they gave you a piece of paper that proves it. But sadly, all you spout are the "traditions of men." The "truth" of which you try to speak has yet to be revealed to you. But don't worry, He has promised that it will.

Praise the Lord. As a committed Bible believing Christian I though I was loosing the plot when speaking out against error.
It is a bit like the "frog in the cooking pot" syndrome.
People are offended by the truth. They were in Jesus' day and they are to-day. The religious are offended by those who speak out the truth. Jesus says you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. It is not the vain philosophy that is heard so much to-day that will save sinners, it is the preaching of Christ and Him crucified.

This is a very straight forward explanation of what the "Word of God" reveals. It is no longer popular to publicly state these truths, but I thank God for men like Pastor MacArthur who are willing to remind us that this is indeed what our God expects from those who claim to love Him & follow His teaching. Jesus Christ knew that this attitude would be prevalent in the last days & that is why I believe that he stated that not all who say "Lord,Lord" will be allowed to enter God's Kingdom. Those of us who love the Word of God must be willing no matter the cost, to stand on the truth's contained in His word.

I agree totally with this article and the previous comment. Philippians 2-3 and Ephesians 4:11-16 indicate that true Christian's top priority is to increasingly learn and be intimate with Jesus Christ. In John 14-16, Jesus teaches about what other priorities we should have and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Only by living Proverbs 3:5-6 can I be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. I need His help in order to do my fulltime Internet ministry. The Holy Spirit and what I know of the Bible helps me to know what to tolerate in relating to what I read and hear. Last Sabbath, I and some of my friends were upset about two America in Prophecy messages by a guest speaker in a meeting we attended because of his criticisms and wrong assumptions about some famous USA Christian leaders. I have collected a lot of articles about this topic and hope that he will read them in my Diino web site. And I also have shared Hebrews 10:19-25, Titus 2 and Jude 20-25 with many.

Insightful words and challenging thoughts by John Macarthur.

We are also reminded in no uncertain terms by James that 'friendship with the world is HATRED towards God'. We are commanded by John, 'Do not love the world or anything in the world'. Jesus himsel said 'You cannot serve two masters'. Not only are these post modern 'Christian' preachers being loose and unconcerned with biblical truth, they are blatantly and proudly walking in the darkness. They are plainly disobeying the Scripture of our Lord which is a very dangerous precedent.

What the world needs is not Christians to stand up for the truth but whole congregations, whole denominations, whole communities of believers to take the bible seriously and to unite together under it's authority. We need to recapture the truth and present to the world a united front that is unashamed, 'unscared' and willing, if need be, to die for the truth of Christ Jesus.
