WHAT ABOUT....

Proverbs 22:6

Train your child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it.
NIV
I stood on this, did not preach or condemn,
and today my son is serving the Lord.

Paul never said to not follow the law- he said to never rely on it for salvation. There is a huge difference.

The will of God and the heart of God can never be understood apart from His law. The error comes in relying on adherence to the law for salvation. We obey God (and obeying God means keeping His law) out of love, not to earn anything. God does not owe us anything, even if we keep the law in every point.

It is a horrible side effect of neglecting the law that we are seeing now. I couldn't believe it when I discovered that most (yes- most) children raised in the church don't even know that fornication is wrong. How can you miss something so obvious? But the fact remains that they do miss it. That could never happen if the adults in the church (especially the pastors - I say this out of love) were doing their jobs.

You miss the point entirely. This article is about teaching, reading, and understanding the law, not about following it. But following it is also important.

I've been studying the book of Galatians and didn't Paul preach against such a close adherence to the Law. I'm not saying that we can completely dismiss the Law but neither can we keep it in all it's exactitudes. Wasn't that the purpose of the Law? It was never meant to show us how to be acceptable rather its intention was to show us that we cannot keep the Law in every minutia. There has got to be another way and that Way is Jesus. If all our righteous is as filthy rags and there are none good then why should we try to keep the Law? The answer is simple. God's Law is more of a marker whereby His children may be recognized. Those who do habitually observe His Law may be identified as His children while those who ignore it are obviously not. Churches that teach His Law will disciple believers who understand this.
