The problem is that we southern baptists have ignored doctrine for too long. Our people don't know the basic ideas of Christianity. Our churches lure people in with sermons on perceived needs, while ignoring the Bible and doctrine. A revival will not help until people understand what we believe.

This article is very misleading. All SBC churches (to the best of my knowledge) "welcome" homosexual attenders, seekers, and even members who are repentant homosexuals who sometimes fall into the sin, but know that acting on homosexual desires is sinful. That is bibical. The problem with this particular local SBC church was that they were allowing open/practicing/unrepentant homosexuals to lead and serve in the church. That is unbiblical. For the record, I am not Baptist or Southern Baptist, but I do listen to the "Albert Mohler Radio Show." Mr. Mohler, who is president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, clarified the issue on his show the other day.

I think what has hurt the SBC was the power struggle that began at Old Forest Road Baptist Church, Va in 1977 that began with "going after the juggler of the SBC." I think the SBC became known as judgmental, harsh, and narrow-minded. This has made people avoid the SBC.

I think that the SBC needs to come to grips that their denomination has stiffled the power of God. They have preached that one gets saved and that's all there is.

By doing this, however sincerely, they have stiffled the work of the Holy Spirit to do miracles as Jesus did. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today.

The SBC needs to see that churches that teach and practice the gifst of he Holy Spirit are the only ones that are growing.

So, SBC, let's get a life. Open your eyes to every word in the Bible. Don't despise prophecying and limit God. This is my opinion that is based on my private interpretation of scripture.
