Read Exodus 14 -- 16

In Today's Reading:

What a climax! Miracle after miracle fills this book. Now see the salvation of Israel through the power of God (the Red Sea). You will enjoy reading how God used the Pillar of Cloud and the Pillar of Fire. Fantastic! Ponder the words of Moses' song, see Miriam dance with a timbrel. Israel was preserved from hunger by manna and water from a rock -- both of which are types of Christ, the living Word (John 6:31; 1 Corinthians 10:3-4).

Verse for Today:

Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song to the Lord . . . for He has triumphed gloriously (Exodus 15:1).

Highlights:

Crossing the Red Sea; song of Moses; waters of Marah; murmurings; manna and quail.

Soon after the Israelites left Egypt, Pharaoh decided to bring them back. But, God miraculously parted the Red Sea and all the Israelites escaped to the other side. Then the Lord caused the sea to go back (Exodus 14:21) and Pharaoh's army was drowned.

The Israelites sang praises to God for their wondrous deliverance from Pharaoh and his armies (15:1-19). They recognized that this was the hand of God; and they praised Him for His supremacy and for their triumphant deliverance from Egypt.

This song of Moses and the song of the Lamb will continue in Heaven for all eternity. It is the first song mentioned in the Scriptures and is mentioned again in the last book of the Bible (Revelation 15:3).

The combination of judgment and grace, and destruction and deliverance, are set forth in this song describing the final victory of God over all enemies. This great victory will be celebrated forever by the faithful in Heaven.

The Lord said: He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son (Revelation 21:7).

A Thought from Proverbs: How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep? . . . So shall your poverty come as one that travels, and your want as an armed man (will overpower you) (6:9,11).

Christ Revealed:

Through the bread (manna) from Heaven (Exodus 16:15). Jesus said: I am the living Bread which came down from Heaven (John 6:51; also 6:32-48).

Word Studies:

14:8 high hand = boldly; 14:17 get me honor upon = my honor and authority will be sustained; 14:24 troubled = confused, panicked; 14:27 to his strength = to its normal depth; 15:2 prepare Him a habitation = praise Him; 15:8 were congealed = stood like a wall; 15:14 Palestina = Philistia, land of the Philistines (Palestine was the name the Romans gave to Israel in the second century AD); 15:23 Marah = bitterness; 16:3 flesh pots = pots of meat; 16:4 prove = test; 16:18 mete = measure.
