What to Watch This Weekend

Laura MacCorkle

The average American watches 3 hours and 46 minutes of television each day.  And of course, as a fellow average American, I'll be sure to do my part this weekend to contribute to this statistic.

Here's what I may or may not be watching:

  • The 12th Annual Inspirational Country Music Awards aired live last night on the Gospel Music Channel.  I missed it, but I'm going to try and watch this evening of performances from Nashville's Acuff Theatre when it re-airs sometime this weekend.  I did hear that Brooks and Dunn's "Believe" won in the "Song of the Year" and "Video of the Year" categories - so kudos to them!  Check your local listings for times.

  • HGTV's "DOMINO Design Bazaar."  I love, love, love DOMINO Magazine, so I was thrilled when I heard they'd joined forces with HGTV for a design special this weekend (premieres on Saturday night).  Editors from the mag have pulled together "the hippest and hottest" stuff in home decor, and Karen McAloon ("Design Remix") and Taniya Nayak ("Freestyle") will be your guides to tell you all about it.  Check your local listings for times.

  • The second season of "Meerkat Manor" premiered on Animal Planet a few weeks back.  Have you seen it on Friday nights?  The critters are so cute, and this up-close-and-personal glimpse into their world is very educational for the whole family.  Over on sister channel TLC, I've also enjoyed watching the latest season of "Little People, Big World" which chronicles the life of the Roloff family (Matt and Amy are dwarf parents, and they have three average-size kids and one dwarf child).  It's a slice of life in a family with extraordinary, but not insurmountable, challenges who learn valuable lessons each week.  So forget the shows with the bug eating and the extreme stunts.  THIS is good reality TV, and I highly recommend it!  Check your local listings for times on both shows.
