Following the wildly successful Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek with possibly one of the longest CD titles ever conjured, rockers Relient K give it another go with Two Lefts Don't Make a Right… But Three Do.
Two Lefts is an album jammed full of punk-influenced rock and riff-driven tunes that surge seamlessly from one track to another. In the classic Relient K way, most of the songs kindly poke fun at today's pop culture. It's not hard to see their jesting in songs such as "Hoopes I Did It Again" and "In Love With the 80s."
However, not all the songs on Two Lefts are strictly amusing anecdotes. Several of the cuts on the CD deal with such matters as getting one's priorities straight to failed relationships and bitterness. And while the lyrics may, at times, get serious, Two Lefts remains a power-packed album with high-energy drum loops and the sound of grinding guitars thrashing throughout.
Compared to Relient K's last release, this album falls short in one area. The repetitive use of the same guitar chords and drumbeats is mundane and somewhat grating. By contrast, past recordings have offered a more varied musical flavor. Unfortunately, the first track on Two Lefts essentially sounds like the whole CD.
While Two Lefts leaves some room for expansion, on the musical creativity scale, Relient K has stayed true to their genre of Christian punk rock.
