Never Alone

Part 2

Mary Southerland

Today’s truth

John 10:27-28 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never die, and no one can steal them out of my hand.

Friend to Friend

God used miracles in a limited world to demonstrate His unlimited power. It is easy to see Him in the miraculous events of life. But in reality, God’s greatest work is in our everyday lives where He takes the ordinary and uses it to create a magnificent design! We are experiencing God daily! We simply don’t know how to recognize Him.

  1. Look for God in circumstances
  2. Look for God in people
  3. Look for God in mistakes
  4. Look for God in a personal relationship with Him.

A little girl explained to her friends that if you know God, you belong to Him and can never be lost. A little boy protested, “But Maggie, suppose you slip through His fingers?" Quick as a flash, she replied, "Never, never! You see, I'm one of the fingers!"

The plan of God is revealed when we belong to Him through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We were not created just for time. We were created for eternity because of God’s love. If we live just for this life, we will miss the ultimate purpose of creation. When our circumstances don’t add up, when the people in our lives are clueless, and when our mistakes make no sense we can keep coming back to this relationship.

Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want”. (NIV)

In this verse, “want” literally means “lack”. We can depend on God. He will take care of us. He will supply every need and we will lack nothing that we need!

A Sunday school teacher asked her class what their favorite verse was. A little boy’s hand shot up immediately. When the teacher called on him, he jumped to his feet and said, “The Lord is my shepherd. He’s all I want”. He quoted it wrong but the message was right! A loving Father meets every need of His child. He is our source!

·         Your husband is not your source.

·         Your job is not your source.

·         Your children are not your source.

·         Your own abilities are not your source.

Jesus Christ is your source! His ways have an eternal perspective that leads us to discover eternal things and to understand the reality that this world and its resources are temporary and unreliable! His resources are unending, always available and they flow through eternity! We serve a big God! And yet, He cares about the smallest details of our lives!

A little girl listened attentively as her father read a passage from the Bible. She seemed amazed by her parents' talk of God's power, love and mercy. "Daddy," she finally asked, placing her little hands on his knees, “How big is God?" Her father thought for a moment and answered, "Honey, he is always just a little bigger than you need."

Psalms 28:7 The LORD is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. (NLT)

God’s ways remind us that He is our source and we can find security in Him alone. The apostle Paul explains that while we are weak, we are strong through God’s presence and power. (2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you." (ICB)) “Power” literally means “ability or miracle”. We are weak. Our power is limited and understandable. But God’s presence in our lives brings new abilities and the kind of power that produces miracles. When we know Him, His power is credited to our life account! We could be living in spiritual wealth instead of spiritual bankruptcy.

The story is told of a business man who was selling some warehouse property. The building had been empty for months and needed repairs. Vandals had damaged the doors, smashed the windows and thrown trash all over the place. As he showed a prospective buyer the property, he took pains to say that he would replace the broken windows and make any repairs needed. The buyer said, "Forget about the repairs. When I buy this place, I'm going to build something completely different. I don't want the building! I just want the site."

God is telling you today that He is waiting, ready to work in your life. You don’t have to repair anything. You don’t have to clean anything up. He just wants you. And when you come to Him, you will never be alone again.

Let’s pray

Father, I want to know You. I need You in my life and right now, invite You to come into my life and take charge. I surrender myself to You and thank You for Your presence. Make me more like You and teach me Your ways, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
