Welcome to my new blog at Christianity.com! The aim of this blog is to write about (mostly)* permanent things--the phrase Russell Kirk used in the twentieth century to refer to those enduring universal moral virtues that make civilized life possible. But more than take my cue from Kirk, I look to the apostle Paul and the words of 2 Corinthians 4:16-18:
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light and momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
This blog is an exercise in things eternal. And my method will follow, as much as possible, John Calvin's exegetical method of "lucid brevity." I want this blog to serve the church and not be a platform for me to be unhelpfully verbose.
I hope you visit often and as a result find your gaze moving more and more toward the things unseen!
