Regi Stone has served as a music minister for several congregations, produced hundreds of church resources, played keyboards for recent tours with Janet Paschal, and served as a studio singer on many Christian recordings. Free to Dream is Regi's national debut. I'd describe his sound as typical inspirational pop, similar to other church-ministry artists such as River or Phillips, Craig & Dean. Most of the lyrics are transparent and encouraging. He's also got a bit of Steven Curtis Chapman in him—"On the Rock I Stand" sounds a lot like Chapman's "The Walk." Though he's not a songwriter, Regi can sing and play as well as most. Since his gift for ministry is the primary focus, he has the luxury of simply performing other people's songs to support his message.
Free to Dream is mostly filled with predictable Christian pop. But the refreshing part is that Regi seems to know his purpose—that he's a minister first, and this CD is an ancillary product to support his ministry. With that in mind, Free to Dream should satisfy fans of simple but well executed inspirational music. It serves as a good promotional tool for why you may want to invite Regi Stone to lead worship at your church someday.
