Dámaris is a featured vocalist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and she's no stranger to the recording world. No Apology is her ninth album with Discovery House Music, and you've likely heard her Kathy Troccoli-like deep alto voice in several commercial jingles from years past, including Pepsi, KFC, and Wrigley's Double Mint Gum. The Kathy Troccoli comparison extends somewhat to style, as Dámaris' music has a similar soulful, inspirational feel. But musically, even for inspirational pop music, this album feels ten years behind the times. The music and production is much like the typical inspirational pop from the 80s. Also, I thought it a little disingenuous to advertise "Featuring The Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers" on the cover between Dámaris and the album title when they're only featured on two of the ten tracks. Still, the project displays some life on the Latin track "Trust and Obey"—and there's no denying the power and beauty of Dámaris' voice nor her desire to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. Fans of the Women of Faith conferences and artists such as Sandi Patty or Kathy Troccoli may want to check out the music of Dámaris.
