Avalon: The Greatest Hits

reviewed by Andree Farias
Style: AC/pop/inspirationalTop Tracks: "Testify to Love," "Adonai," "The Glory," "You Were There"

In a nutshell: Since worship music took over adult-contemporary airwaves in the past five years or so, vocal groups like Avalon have had a hard time competing for attention. Add to that the foursome's revolving-door lineup, and their quest for identity is compounded. Avalon: The Greatest Hits is the quartet's second hits collection this millennium, but one that places a higher premium on '90s and early 2000s glories rather than the here and now. There's a pleasant new song in the mix, "Still My God," but it doesn't stack up next to Avalon's older repertoire, especially those sweeping, glorious ballads like "Can't Live a Day," "I Don't Want to Go," and "Everything to Me."
