Industry Giants

Style: Distorted garage power pop; compare to Cheap Trick, HumTop Tracks: "I Only Want a Place I Can Stay," "5 Minutes Ahead of the Chaos"

In a nutshell: On their last album, Last Call For Vitriol, Superdrag bore some hints of John Davis's then-recent conversion to Christianity, with pleading songs of faith and longing. Seven years later, there's no denying who is inspiring Davis's heady mixture of glammy garage rock and shoegazer pop. As he sings over a bed of fuzzy chords on "Filthy And Afraid": "Don't you know that God gave you breath?/Man, I do". Could this be an album that bridges the divide between the secular and Christian music worlds? Too early to tell, but until that gets decided, crank this up to 11.
