Spotlight EP

reviewed by Robert Ham
Style: Amped-up new wave-influenced rockTop Tracks: "Spotlight," "Earlylight," "Spotlight (Son Lux Remix)"

In a nutshell: On this four-song EP, MuteMath builds on "Spotlight," the New Orleans quartet's inclusion on the soundtrack for teen vampire flick, Twilight. Primarily a stop gap measure to maintain interest drummed up by the soundtrack until the band's second album bows this summer, the EP features three alternate takes of "Spotlight": the soundtrack rendition, a gauzy-sounding instrumental version, and a heady deconstruction cooked up by electro-pop artist Son Lux. Although a fine smattering of new material, this release will really only serve to arouse the appetites of MuteMath fans hungry for the next full length.
