In a nutshell: Fifth season American Idol contestant Mandisa is already releasing her fourth project with Sparrow records. With a full length, a Christmas EP, and a full length Christmas album already behind her, Mandisa certainly wastes no time putting out music. Her newest release, Freedom, takes on a flavor of '90s style of Christian urban pop reminiscent of a group like Out of Eden. Where Mandisa's voice never fails, the songwriting occasionally does. It seems as if whenever the music is excellent, the lyrics drag it down, and whenever the lyrics are profound, the music doesn't capture their true spirit. While some songs hit it right on the dot ("Freedom Song"), a significant amount fall flat.
