Hell or High Water

Reviewed by Andrea Dawn Goforth
Style: Hard indie rock/ambient; the sound of Emery and Mae mixed with '90s grunge Top tracks: "84' Sheepdog," "Into the Sea," "Gates"

In a nutshell: Don't let the hard first track of As Cities Burn's third album fool you. The Tooth & Nail band, As Cities Burn, has disassembled their once scream/sing sound and recreated themselves into a grunge, ambient rock group. Fans of the '90s grunge scene will be sure to swoon over the distorted guitar tones and indie rock vocals. Insightfully matching the emotion of the music to the lyrical content on songs like "Errand Run" and "Into the Sea," the album feels organic and cohesive. Although this may not be the As Cities Burn we're used to, it stands to be one of the more brilliant and thought-out albums in their lineup.
