In a nutshell: When a bigwig CCM artist like Sandi Patty takes off her major label crown for an independent outfit, you know times in the industry are a-changin'. But rather than introduce her new label (Stylos Records) with a bloated-budget recording, the golden-throated legend is keeping it low key. Flawless piano accompaniment, an occasional acoustic guitar, striking cello lines, and ornamental percussion treat the lovely songstress' most poignant back catalog selections with a strikingly modest makeover. No high Cs here—only Patty's unique ability to soulfully phrase each and every lyric with heart-wrenching vulnerability, reminding us of why she is so good. An acoustic record may seem a bit backward, but this is Patty at the top of her game. Simply Sandi is simply beautiful.
