THRILLA

Reviewed by Andrea Bailey Willits
Style: Southern-fried crunk fitting of Master P and Lil' Jon Top tracks: "More Than a Conqueror," "Crunk Az Me," "My Life Rated 'R'"

In a nutshell: Whether you love or hate former Three 6 Mafia royalty Mr. Del all depends on how you feel about crunk (a combo of southern hip-hop and electronica). That's especially true on his third release, THRILLA, 20 tracks of blazing, street-preaching, crunk fury, full of wailing choirs and heavy beats. If you dig his slamming style, you'll find him waxing more eloquent than ever, urgently growling the gospel while influences from Lil' Jon, Tupac, and Soulja Boy shine through. If you're headache-prone, this hardcore offering won't please, but melodic songs like "Indescribable" and the smooth "My Life Rated 'R'" just might win you over.
